PART I – CRIMINAL CODE OVERVIEW

1.      a.   Manual 121 (The Blue Book) is divided into twenty-one chapters, plus a List of Appendices and Definitions (which are used both in the Blue Book and in the Statutes themselves).  One of the simplest ways to use the book is to look at the Chapter headings, such as:  Chapter 2 – General Code Provisions; Chapter 5 – Homicide, Assaults, and Kidnapping; Chapter 7 – Drug Offenses; Chapter 8 – Robbery, Arson, Burglary & Related Offenses; and Chapter 21 – Civil Process.  Having identified the Chapter that contains the offenses which would most likely fit the scenario the trainee (or officer) is attempting to solve, the specific offense (or offenses) located under that chapter heading would give the user the specific chapter section and page number.  The trainee could then go to that section and/or page number and determine if the scenario (or actual investigation) elements are found in or contained in that statute offense.

b.      Trainee will demonstrate how to use the resource book in class exercises.
